Hello all, figured this is the easiest way to put down my goals for the ol’ backlog in 2023.
I will be giving myself a list of 5 games I must beat in 2023 (I don’t trust myself to do more than that).
This means that:
1) I have to limit my mobile game playing
2) I clear more games (hopefully)
One rule is that it can’t be a brand new game that comes out in 2023 (heck maybe even 2022)
Let’s get started:
1) Atelier Ryza: Ever Darkness & the Secret Hideout (PS4)

In my goals to catch up to Atelier, obviously Ryza is the next in line after I finished Lulua a couple weeks before my long vacation. Hopefully I can do more than just Ryza 1 but it seems like I am only able to do at least one a year with my pace. We’ll see!!!
2) Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia (3DS)

The Fire Emblem game I just happened to skip during my 3 year long Granblue Fantasy sabbatical. I hear it’s excellent and I would definitely not mind having more Fire Emblem characters to love and (hopefully not) spend money on in Fire Emblem Heroes.
3. Ar nosurge: Ode to an Unborn Star (PS3)

I never did end up going through this game on my own time when it came out. I had tested it at work for maybe a week and got through most of it. Unfortunately it meant that I didn’t feel as compelled to play it when I bought it. I wish I could have played Ciel nosurge first, but alas…
Also I’m specifically going to play the PS3 version over the Vita version because I do want to eventually platinum all the Gust games I have somehow. Even if that is somewhat unrealistic on my part if I get a job again,
4. Nora and the Time Studio: The Witch of the Foggy Forest (NDS)

The game has finally gotten a fan translation last year and I am hoping to get myself to play it very soon. I’ve owned it since it first came out in Japan in 2011 and am very much looking forward to seeing how Atelier-like it is! As a bonus, it apparently has quite a bit of Finnish influence, which I am hoping to discuss with my dear Finnish friend, Yokky about.
5. The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky (PC)

I’ll be honest: Even getting myself to start this one is kind of wishful thinking. All the other 4 are RPGs that will easily take me 50+ hours, and this one is just as long. But that’s the idea of goals, right? It’d be nice to finally see what the fuss is about with all these Trails games. Especially considering I have bought all the ones that came out in English already other than the newest ones… We’ll see what happens. I also need to play more PC games anyway since my cousin donated a pretty decent one to me and I should take advantage of it.
BONUS GOALS
I am hoping to follow along with the Community Game Along this year created by @apricotsushi.
Jan: #PuzzleGameMonth
Feb: #DatingSiMonth
Mar: #MusicGameMarch
April: #PlatforMonth
May: #Maytroidvania
June: #RoguelikeJune
July: #JRPGJuly
Aug: #AsianGameMonth
Sept: #SHMUPtember
Oct: #HorrorGameOct
Nov: #VNNovember
Dec: #DeSiMber
That would give me 12 additional games to beat for the year, although I can lump JRPGJuly with one of the above games, I suppose.
Additionally, if I finish Ryza 1, I will hopefully be able to get to Ryza 2.
I also do want to go back and platinum Final Fantasy VII: Remake though it seems like a pain in the ass.
I’ll add more things here if I think of it.
